Fakhar Zaman contests the two-match ban after ball tampering controversy
Fakhar Zaman, playing for Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), has reportedly appealed against his two-match ban. Zaman was found to have deliberately altered the condition of the ball during Lahore’s game against Karachi Kings.
Zaman is understood to have appealed against the suspension of the PSL technical committee.
The incident
The incident occurred before the final over in the KK vs LQ game, when the on-field umpires Shahid Saikat and Faisal Khan Afridi changed the ball and handed Lahore a five-run penalty.
As the story developed, Fakhar Zaman was named as the prime suspect and was charged with a level 3 offence by on-field umpires, as well as television umpire Asif Yaqoob and fourth umpire Tariq Rasheed. But the left-handed batter denied the charges and requested a full hearing, which was conducted by Match Referee Roshan Mahanama, during which all the evidence was viewed.
Hearing and outcome
During the hearing, Lahore’s captain Shaheen Shah Afridi, team director Sameen Rana and manager Farooq Anwar were present as well. Mahanama found Zaman guilty of tampering with the ball and banned him for the next two games.
Lahore will play their next game on April 3 against Multan Sultans. With his ban, Fakhar is likely to return to the side on April 11 in Lahore’s fixture versus Peshawar Zalmi.
