England Announce Playing XI for 1st T20I vs India; Archer, Tongue Miss Out

[ Poll: KyRMo1wA ]

The England and Wales Cricket Board has announced England's playing XI for the first T20I of the five-match series against the India national cricket team. Jofra Archer, who played two Test matches against New Zealand, the last of which ended on June 29 in Nottingham, has been rested.

The turnaround between the Test and T20I was just 2 days, and England won’t risk Archer getting injured. Mind you, the fast bowler was rested for the first Test to manage his workload. James Coles, who earned his maiden England call-up, hasn’t been included. The all-rounder misses out, with Sam Curran and Will Jacks, both of whom were part of England’s T20 World Cup campaign, making the side ahead of him.

Rehan Ahmed, Sonny Baker, Jordan Cox and Josh Tongue have also been left out of England's playing XI. Tongue, who played all three Tests against New Zealand, has been rested for the opening T20I, while Rehan, Baker and Cox missed selection as England preferred experienced players like Phil Salt, Liam Dawson and Saqib Mahmood.

India captain Shreyas Iyer also kept the team combination under wraps and did not reveal the playing XI. Fans will have to wait until the toss at the Riverside Ground to know India's final lineup.
