Delhi Capitals Face Dilemma Over Mustafizur Rahman Amid NOC Controversy

Delhi Capitals' strategic move to bolster their bowling attack by signing Bangladesh's pace sensation Mustafizur Rahman for the remainder of IPL 2025 has hit an unexpected snag. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has yet to receive a request for a no-objection certificate (NOC), a prerequisite for players to participate in overseas leagues.

Delhi Capitals Face Dilemma Over Mustafizur Rahman Amid NOC Controversy

The announcement by Delhi Capitals came on Wednesday, revealing Mustafizur as the replacement for Australian batter Jake Fraser-McGurk, who opted out of returning to India due to personal reasons. This signing has raised eyebrows as typically, players are announced only after securing the necessary permissions.

BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury expressed the board's surprise at the situation. “Mustafizur will travel with the national team to the UAE,” he confirmed to ESPNcricinfo. Chowdhury further stated, “We have not received any request from the IPL officials. I haven’t heard from Mustafizur either.”

This development poses a potential setback for Delhi Capitals, who might rely heavily on Mustafizur in the absence of Mitchell Starc, should the latter decide not to return for the remaining matches. The left-arm pacer is currently scheduled to play two T20 Internationals against the UAE on May 17 and 19, aligning with Bangladesh's national commitments.

Mustafizur shared a snapshot en route to Dubai, indicating his focus on national duty. This overlap implies he will miss Delhi's crucial fixture against Gujarat Titans on May 18. The Capitals are slated to conclude their league stage with matches on May 18, 21, and 24, necessitating urgent discussions.

Reports suggest that Delhi Capitals are in talks with the BCB to negotiate Mustafizur's early release. The franchise is likely aware of the board’s entitlement to a percentage of the player's earnings when participating in the IPL, adding financial dimensions to the ongoing dialogue.

The uncertainty surrounding Mustafizur's participation underscores the complex interplay between player commitments and franchise requirements, highlighting the intricate processes governing international cricket operations. As negotiations unfold, cricket enthusiasts are keenly watching if Delhi Capitals can successfully navigate this diplomatic challenge and secure Mustafizur’s pivotal role in their quest for IPL glory.
