DDCA Secretary Urges Kohli to inspiration from Mumbai Cricketers, Suggests Rishabh Pant for Ranji Trophy
Ashok Sharma the Secretary for the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA), suggest to Virat Kohli on Tuesday, asking him to play in the upcoming Ranji Trophy matches for Delhi. The man Sharma mentioned how Mumbai cricketers always try to play for their state teams when they are free. This was right after Rohit Sharma, the captain of India, was spotted practicing with the Mumbai Ranji team at Wankhede Stadium. Sharma hasn't said yet if he'll join the team for their next game at home against Jammu and Kashmir on January 23.
DDCA secretary mentioned to the Indian Express that Kohli and Rishabh Pant might play in the last two rounds of the Ranji Trophy for Delhi. He said, both Virat and Rishabh's names are in the probable list. The camp for the Ranji Trophy is happening today. Virat could take inspiration from Mumbai players and play for Delhi whenever he has the chance. Also, DDCA secretary pointed out, Mumbai has a tradition where, if the India players are free, they join the matches but unfortunately, we don't really see this happening in Delhi, especially in the northern sides.
"Sharma mentioned that even though the BCCI wants the players to take part in domestic cricket, it seems doubtful that Kohli and Pant will play in the next games. However, he thinks, considering the Champions Trophy is coming up, playing in at least one of the last two games would be good for both players, as there are worries they are not playing there best for cricket at home. I don't think they will, but I believe Virat and Rishabh should play at least one game", he said.
Kohli and Pant should be available, but there are other considerations to take into account
The Kohli didn't played well in the Australia. At first match at Perth, it seemed god because he scored a hundred runs in the first match at Perth but after that, he only score 90 runs in all the other times he batted. Rishabh Pant, another player, faced tough times. Everyone thought he would be very important for India because of how well he did in the 2020/21 series but he couldn't score now but in the end, in the last match in Sydney, he scored fifty runs two times in a both innings.
Rohan Jaitley, the DDCA President, mentioned that if Kohli and Pant are healthy, they could play in the Ranji Trophy. Jaitley noted how managing their workload is important when making decisions.
Jaitley said it's important for players to take part in domestic cricket. He mentioned there's a big amount of information to consider when thinking through the complexities of if they can play. They should be available but there are many factors to consider, he pointed out.
He said that when players aren't busy with national games, they really should be playing in domestic cricket. Clearly, if they're playing for the country, they can't, but it's key they become involved when they're free. The National Cricket Academy, and the individuals or people who pick the teams, take care of how much a player works but still, getting into domestic cricket is of significant consequence for getting better.
"Jaitley thinks Kohli being there could really help the team, especially the younger men. Delhi has a team currently facing Saurashtra in Rajkot on January 23, and then they play Railways at home on January 30", he said.
