DC vs RCB – Faf du Plessis Injury Update: Will the Star Batter Make His Comeback?
Delhi Capitals (DC) assistant coach Matthew Mott has provided an update on Faf du Plessis’ fitness ahead of their upcoming clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). The experienced batter sat out the last game against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) due to an injury concern, which Mott later hinted could be a minor groin niggle.
Delhi Capitals (DC) have arrived in Bengaluru for their fourth outing in the ongoing IPL 2025, where they’re set to take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Under Axar Patel’s leadership, DC are on a roll remaining unbeaten so far with three wins from three matches in the tournament.
They’ll be looking to carry that momentum into this high-profile clash at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Speaking ahead of Delhi Capitals’ (DC) clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), assistant coach Matthew Mott gave a positive update on Faf du Plessis’ recovery. The veteran batter, who missed the last game due to a groin niggle, is showing signs of improvement.
“The beauty of the schedule so far is that he’s now had a good break. He’ll get assessed by the physios with a view to playing. He certainly looks like he’s moving around a lot better from the naked eye,” Mott said during the pre-match interaction.
Mott Lauds KL Rahul’s Impactful Opening Knock in Faf’s Absence
Mott also heaped praise on KL Rahul for stepping up as an opener in Faf’s absence during the previous game against Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
“I thought KL in the last game was amazing—to come in at short notice and play an innings like that really set us up for the win. We’ve got a number of guys who can step in and do the job at the top of the order,” he added.
Matthew Mott also credited skipper Axar Patel for Delhi Capitals’ flying start in IPL 2025 praising his calm and inclusive leadership style that has helped create a relaxed team environment.
“He’s just got a great balance between cricket and life. He reads the group well, keeps everyone involved, and makes sure there’s always a smile on their faces,” Mott said. “He doesn’t try to be the only voice in the room — and that really puts the players at ease.”
With three wins on the trot, Axar’s captaincy has clearly struck the right chord with the squad.
