Champions Trophy 2025: Mohammed Shami Becomes Quickest Indian to 200 ODI Wickets
Mohammed Shami took his 200th wicket in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 match between Bangladesh and India at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Thursday. He did this by taking the wickets of Soumya Sarkar, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, and Jaker Ali. Shami leads India's troop to the dressing room as the experienced pacer broke a few records with his 6th ODI fifer, helping the Rohit Sharma-led side bundle out the Tigers for 228 in 49.4 overs!
On the last ball of the first over, Shami got Soumya Sarkar out. Soumya had faced five balls without scoring a run. Shami bowled a well-placed ball, aimed just outside off with a perfect seam. After the ball landed, it skidded quickly and turned back toward the left-handed batter. Soumya moved forward to hit it on the off side but ended up missing as he wasn’t in the right position. The ball caught an inside edge, and KL Rahul made an easy catch behind the stumps.

Then, on the second ball of the seventh over, Shami got Mehidy Hasan Miraz out. He bowled a good-length ball from over the wicket. The ball landed well outside, and as Miraz went for a fancy drive without proper foot movement, he got an outside edge. The ball went toward the first slip, where Shubman Gill caught it with both hands.
Shami later also contributed significantly by dismissing Jaker Ali, shattering Bangladesh's 154-run stand in the 43rd over. The veteran bowler later revealed that after he suffered the ankle injury, there were times when he felt his international career could be over, but his will to play for India was strong enough to keep him going.
Shami injured his ankle in the 2023 ODI World Cup final against Australia in November and underwent surgery. His rehabilitation became even more difficult when his left knee swelled, keeping him out of international cricket for 14 months.
“From being in great form during the World Cup to suddenly finding myself on the operating table, from that form to being injured was really tough," Shami told the ICC.
“For the first two months I often doubted whether I would be able to play again as an injury like this followed by a 14-month break can pull you down," Shami added.
