Champions Trophy 2025: England Suffer Big Blow as Jacob Bethell Is Ruled Out
England has suffered a big setback ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy. Young all-rounder Jacob Bethell has been ruled out due to a left hamstring injury. He picked up the injury while playing in the first ODI against India in Nagpur. It's a big blow for the side as Bethel was supposed to play a big part in the tournament.
The 21-year-old England all-rounder picked up his hamstring injury during the first ODI against India. He batted in the middle and scored 51 runs but wasn’t part of the second ODI in Cuttack. According to Sky Sports, Bethell had scans on his left hamstring a day before the Cuttack match, which confirmed a tear.
This injury rules Bethell out of the ICC Champions Trophy. He will require around 4-6 weeks to get over the injury. England will face their first match of the Champions Trophy against Australia on February 22 in Pakistan. In the meantime, Tom Banton has been drafted in as a replacement for the third ODI against India in Ahmedabad.
"I'm pretty sure Bethell is out of the Champions Trophy, to be honest. It's really disappointing for him," said England captain Jos Buttler after their loss in Cuttack. "He played well the other day and is one of the exciting young players. It's a shame that injury will keep him out."
The left-hander Jacob Bethell made his debut for England last September and struck quickly for the team. Replacing him for the ICC Champions Trophy is going to be a task for England. The left-hander besides being a good batter adds value with his spin bowling, and thus, his absence will be felt highly.
