Big Blow for India A: Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan Expected to Miss 2nd Unofficial Test – Reports

Big Blow for India A: Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan Expected to Miss 2nd Unofficial Test – ReportsIndia’s Test captain Shubman Gill and young batter Sai Sudharsan are likely to miss the second unofficial Test between India A and the England Lions, starting June 6. Both players recently wrapped up their IPL 2025 campaign with Gujarat Titans, who were knocked out in the Eliminator by Mumbai Indians.

Newly appointed India Test captain Shubman Gill and promising left-hander B Sai Sudharsan were originally expected to join the India A squad after their IPL 2025 campaign with Gujarat Titans, as per BCCI’s earlier plan. However, both players have now been given a short break to rest and recover, both physically and mentally, before the challenging five-match Test series against England. With the second unofficial Test starting on June 6 the same day they are set to fly out to England it is almost certain they will miss that match. Gill is also expected to attend a pre-departure press conference alongside head coach Gautam Gambhir, signaling a shift in focus from T20 to red-ball cricket.

Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan have been given a short rest by the BCCI after a long IPL season, as per a Times of India report. Both players have already started training with the red ball to prepare for the England Test series. They will miss the second unofficial Test for India A, but it’s part of a plan to manage their workload and keep them fresh.

“Both Sai and Gill have been training with the red ball over the last few days. After a long tournament, they need some rest and recovery,” a source toldThe Times of India.a

Gujarat Titans openers Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan were in top form during IPL 2025, with Gill scoring 650 runs and Sudharsan bagging the Orange Cap with 759 runs. While Gill steps into a big role as India’s new Test captain, Sudharsan has earned his maiden Test call-up. Both will now shift focus to the upcoming five-match Test series against England, starting June 20, with an intra-squad match lined up as part of the preparations.
