Bidding Deadline Arrives for Potential New Owners of RCB and RR Before IPL 2026
The last date for companies and investors to place bids to acquire Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) has finally arrived. RCB’s owner Diageo has chosen to sell the team, and RR’s owner Emerging Media Ventures, headed by Manoj Badale, is set to sell a majority stake in the side. This is happening only 12 days before the start of IPL 2026, which will begin on March 28.
Multiple Investors Compete to Buy Stakes in RCB and Rajasthan Royals
According to State of Play Club, March 16 is the final day for potential buyers to place their bids. Approximately six groups are vying to acquire IPL 2025 champions RCB, and four groups are trying to acquire a majority stake in Rajasthan Royals.
The companies that are vying to acquire RCB are EQT, Avram Glazer, Ranjan Pai with KKR, Adar Poonawalla, the Times of India Group, Premji Invest, and Capri Global. For RR, the groups are Aditya Birla Group with Bolt Ventures, the Times of India Group, Capri Global, Avram Glazer, and Kal Somani. According to reports on Sunday, former IPL chairman Lalit Modi has joined hands with Kal Somani to form a group that will bid for a majority stake in Rajasthan Royals.
The current worth of RCB is estimated to be around $1.5-2 billion. Earlier reports suggested that Diageo was considering selling the team ahead of IPL 2026 as they were concerned that the brand value might decrease following Virat Kohli’s likely departure. The stampede in Bengaluru was also a factor.
