BCCI Set to Decide New President and Vice-President at Upcoming AGM; New IPL Chair on Cards: Reports

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is preparing for its Annual General Meeting (AGM) later this month. Before that, a key meeting of the board’s top officials will be held in the next few days. In this private discussion, they are likely to talk over, shortlist and decide on the names of candidates for the upcoming elections.

The Annual General Meeting (AGM) is set for the last week of September in Mumbai. Some key posts are likely to stay the same, with the current secretary, joint secretary and treasurer expected to continue in their roles. However, elections will be held for the posts of president and vice-president positions that could bring changes to the board’s leadership.

The president’s post is still open, and according to insiders, the choice could be anyone from a former Indian cricketer to an experienced cricket administrator. Sources say the board has not decided on one name yet, and the final decision will be taken only after the leadership meeting.

New Faces in the Race for IPL Chair

Rajeev Shukla, the current vice-president, is one of the key names being talked about. As per sources, there are three options for him, he could continue as vice-president, move up as BCCI president or take charge as IPL chairman. While it looks most likely that he will stay on as vice-president, there’s also a “60-40 chance” that he could be promoted to the top post.

The IPL chair might see a new face this time. Former BCCI treasurer Anirudh Choudhury is being talked about for a comeback, while Bengal’s Avishek Dalmiya is already part of the IPL Governing Council is also in the race. An official notice for the AGM is expected in the next two to three days. Once the top-level meeting takes place it will not only shape the upcoming elections but also decide the balance of power within the BCCI.
