In a disturbing incident on Thursday, some players from the Australia women’s cricket team were reportedly followed and harassed by a man in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. This happened while the team was in India for the ongoing Women’s World Cup 2025. According to reports, the players were returning to their hotel from a café in Indore when the man allegedly followed and molested them.

Australian Women Cricketers Harassed in Indore, Accused Arrested

According to the Times of India, Danny Simmons, the security manager of the Australian women’s cricket team, filed a complaint at the MIG Colony police station. After this, an FIR was registered. The police used CCTV footage to track the accused, who has been charged with outraging modesty and stalking. The incident happened on Thursday morning.

“CA can confirm two members of the Australian Women’s team were approached and touched inappropriately by a motorcyclist while walking to a cafe in Indore. The matter was reported by team security to police, who are handling the matter,” Cricket Australia’s statement read.

A Dainik Bhaskar report gave more details about the shocking incident. The accused, 30-year-old Aqeel from Khajrana, reportedly followed two Australian women cricketers as they walked back from The Neighbourhood Café near Khajrana Road to the Radisson Blu hotel.

He allegedly made inappropriate gestures and even tried to grab one of the players. The player sent an emergency SOS message to the team’s security manager, Danny Simmons, after the incident.

“Our players were walking a short distance to a nearby café. Around 11 a.m., they sent me an SOS alert that a man was following them and trying to grab them. Both the players were escorted back to their hotel and did not sustain any physical injuries,” Australia’s security manager Simmons said.

The ICC and BCCI were informed about the incident, and after that, local security for international players was strengthened. Police also checked the security at the team’s hotel and practice grounds to make sure this doesn’t happen again.

“A case has been registered under Sections 74 and 78 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), equivalent to “outraging the modesty of a woman.” CCTV footage from near the Radisson Ring Road and Khajrana area captured the accused trailing the cricketers, which helped the police identify and apprehend him swiftly,” police officials said.
