Arshdeep Singh Nominated for ICC T20I Cricketer of the Year

Young India fast bowler Arshdeep Singh has been nominated for the Men’s T20I Cricketer of the Year, with the International Cricket Council announcing the list of nominations on Sunday, December 29. Arshdeep was the joint-highest wicket-taker in the T20 World Cup 2024 claiming 17 wickets from eight matches at an impressive average of 12.64 and an economy rate of 7.16.

Left-arm seamer Arshdeep Singh also came out as the highest wicket-taker of the year among the Test-playing nations, with 36 wickets from just 18 matches at 13.50 and maintaining an economy of 7.49. To their surprise, pace ace for India Jasprit Bumrah, crowned Player of the Tournament of the T20 World Cup 2024, missed out for the first time on all the nominees list for prestigious ICC Men's T20I Cricketer of the Year award.

India's brightest star of the T20 World Cup 2024, Jasprit Bumrah was the tournament's second-highest wicket-taker, taking 15 wickets in eight games with an average of just 8.26 and economy rate of merely 4.17. Another name in the nomination list is that of the Pakistani star batter Babar Azam. Babar was the leading scorer in T20I, both for Test-playing teams and globally, scoring 738 runs from 23 innings with an average of 33.54 and a strike rate of 133.21, which comprised six half-centuries.

Completing the list of ICC Men's T20I Cricketer of the Year award nominees is Australia's dynamic opener, Travis Head. Head proved to be the top run-scorer for Australia in T20Is during 2024, racking up 539 runs in 15 innings with an average of 38.50 and a strike rate of 178.47. His four half-centuries displayed his ability to take complete control over bowling attacks and provide explosive starts for his team.

Zimbabwean star all-rounder Sikandar Raza also features in the list of nominees for the ICC Men's T20I Cricketer of the Year solidifying his position through remarkable performances in 2024. Raza has etched his name into the books of history by smashing the second fastest century in T20Is earlier this year. He scored 573 runs in 23 innings at an average of 28.65 and an explosive strike rate of 146.54 that had included one century and two fifties. With the ball, he did equally well taking 24 wickets in 23 games at an average of 22.25 replete with match winning displays of 5/18. 

Fans can now vote for their favorite players on the ICC website adding their voices to decide this prestigious accolade.
