Amelia Kerr Named Captain as New Zealand Cricket Reveal T20I Squad for South Africa Series

New Zealand Women will face South Africa Women in a white-ball series. The teams will play five T20I matches and three ODI matches. The T20Is will be played on March 15, 17, 20, 22, and 25, while the ODI matches will take place on March 29, April 1, and April 4. Ahead of the white-ball series, NZC (New Zealand Cricket) came forward and announced its squad for the five T20Is.
Amelia Kerr will serve as captain of the side, with some of their more seasoned campaigners Suzie Bates and Sophie Devine available for this campaign too, whilst another notable name on the team sheet is the opening batsman, Georgia Plimmer. She was unable to compete in Zimbabwes T20I series and virtualy all of the ODIs due to injury, will return for the first time since her shoulder injury last year, when she takes her place in the team against South Africas women’s side.
Head coach of the New Zealand women’s team Ben Sawyer was centre stage and spoke about the team, including the views on the squad make-up in regard to the mix of players and notable senior players rejoining the squad.
"We're really excited to welcome back Suzie and Sophie for this next block of games. Their quality on the field really does speak for itself but what they bring to the group culturally is really important for us as a team. I'm looking forward to having them mix in with some of the newer members of the squad,” Sawyer said in a NZC release.
New Zealand T20I squad: Amelia Kerr (c), Suzie Bates, Sophie Devine, Flora Devonshire, Isabella Gaze, Maddy Green, Brooke Halliday, Bree Illing, Polly Inglis, Jess Kerr, Rosemary Mair, Nensi Patel, Georgia Plimmer, Izzy Sharp, Lea Tahuhu.
