Ahead of the Champions Trophy, Shane Watson shows trust in Kohli and Rohit’s abilities
After months of planning and discussions, everyone's preparing carefully for the Champions Trophy. They decided to demonstrate the trophy at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), which is of significant consequence, right before the last Test match of the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024. Shane Watson, who's like the main person representing ICC for this event, was the man who took away all the attention to talk with the press right outside the SCG.
Watson spoke a lot about what's happening with the Champions Trophy, and even offered some thoughts on how Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, two major cricket stars from India, are doing these days.
Watson said it was a disappointment that fans in Pakistan only got to see half of the Champions Trophy because of its mixed format. He thought it was bad for cricket fans in Pakistan to miss out, especially since having top cricket games in their country is of significant consequence.

Pakistan fans are extremely excited to watch world class cricket, everyone mentioned. Getting to experience cricket in Pakistan was a major highlight of my career. They care about the sport so much, more than anyone. For far too long, they haven't gotten to see the best international cricket.
Watson mentioned how when India and Pakistan play against each other in cricket, it's a major occasion. He said, "It's a special occasion every time these two teams meet. Cricket fans everywhere really want to see these games, so it is too bad that some fans don't get to watch. A clash between India and Pakistan always gets cricket fans all over the world extremely excited".
Focus to India, Watson was asked about the recent struggles of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. He was confident that their poor form would not affect their impact in the Champions Trophy.
Virat is an ODI genius legendary. He averages something similar to 57, which is unexpectedly good over so much time, Watson mentioned. We're going to see him demonstrate in the Champions Trophy, controlling his game like a leader.
We understand how good Rohit Sharma can be when he's playing ODIs, especially when we remember his doing great in the World Cup and taking on every challenge set forth. Watson believes in him, even though Rohit's facing tough times today. Test cricket is a different ball game, it's tougher to get used to it there but Watson is confident that once Rohit gets back to ODIs, he'll shine again.
With the Champions Trophy coming up and not a lot of international cricket left for him, Rohit knows he needs to try harder, and Watson thinks he'll definitely do just that.
