Afghanistan’s Champions Trophy 2025 squad announced: Ibrahim Zadran returns, but no spot for Mujeeb Ur Rahman

On Sunday, January 12, Afghanistan announced squad for ICC Champions Trophy 2025. It's a significant consequence because it's the first time they're playing in this tournament. Hashmatullah Shahidi is the captain and Ibrahim Zadran, he's very good at opener for team. But, people are surprised because spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman isn't in the team.
Zadran has returned to the team, After recover an ankle injury. He hasn't played international cricket since March 2024. But, even though Mujeeb had a great return in T20I last month against Zimbabwe and has done well in ODIs, he didn't in the squad.
Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) Chairman Mirwais Ashraf believes the team is solid. Ashraf said the AfghanAtalan team has been amazing in the past two ICC events the CWC 2023 and ICC World T20 2024. They've also mastered several ODI series wins last year. This, he thinks will push them to go for even larger wins in this campaign.
He said mentorship played a big role in the team's success. We've made it a point to onboard excellent mentors, like Younis Khan. His large experience in international cricket is going to be very helpful for the team. This move has been key to our recent success.
Ahmad Suliman Khil, selecting for the ACB, said something about why Mujeeb wasn't picked. Khil said the reason Mujeeb didn't play in the latest ODIs against Zimbabwe because that doctor told him he should only play T20 cricket.

The Afghanistan cricket team is going to start their Champions Trophy games on February 21, and they're in Group B with teams from Australia, England, and South Africa. Fans are really excited to watch how the team does facing such big competition on a large cricket platform.
