Afghanistan Registers Its Biggest Victory, beats Zimbabwe by 232 runs

Afghanistan's rise in international cricket continues. They beat Zimbabwe by an unprecedented margin, dismissing the whole opponent team at just 56 runs.

After winning the toss, Afghanistan batted first in the match, scoring 286 runs using six wickets in 50 overs; opener Sediqullah Atal scored a magnificent century of 104 runs in 128 balls, hitting eight boundaries and four massive sixes, while another opener, Abdul Malik, scored 84 runs in 101 balls, hitting 11 boundaries and one six.

Massive 191-run opening partnership

Both openers played a strong foundation for a big score, contributing to a 191-run partnership. They battled together for 35 overs. This is Sediqullah Atal's first international century.

After the partnership ended, the team scored only 22 runs in the next six overs. Azmatullah Omarzai and Rahmat Shah were the main culprits for the slow batting in those 5-6 overs; both batters scored only six runs in the 20 balls they played.

In the last ten overs, the team scored over 80 runs with the help of captain Hashmatullah Shahidi, 29 off 30 balls and Mohammad Nabi,18 off 16 balls. Newman Nyamhuri took three wickets from Zimbabwe, while Trevor Gwandu took two.

When Zimbabwe came to chase a 257-run target, their start was far from ideal. The team lost its first wicket in the first over itself, and the dismissal was even more unfortunate as the opener, Ben Curran, got run out in the last ball of the first over while trying to score the first runs.

The team continues to lose its wickets in the span of every few overs. Zimbabwe lost its half of the team in just 12 overs at a score of 32. After that, Sean Williams and Sikandar Raza couldn't get support from other players. The team finally got all out at 54 runs while Sikandar Raza remained unbeaten at the score of 19 off 32 balls.

With this victory, Afghanistan now has an unassailable lead in the three-match series, as the first match gets washed out due to the rain.
