Ackeem Auguste Earns Maiden ODI Call-Up as West Indies Announce Bangladesh Tour Squad

[ Poll: ALxv92wY ]

Ackeem Auguste has been called up to the West Indies ODI team for the first time for their upcoming white-ball tour of Bangladesh later this month. He comes in as a replacement for Evin Lewis, who is out with a wrist injury.

Ackeem Auguste Makes ODI Debut for West Indies

Khary Pierre, who made his Test debut earlier this month against India in Ahmedabad, is also back in the ODI squad. He will join Gudakesh Motie and all-rounder Roston Chase as the third spinner. Alick Athanaze is returning to the team as well, having last played an ODI in December last year.

"The selection of Ackeem reflects the pathway Cricket West Indies is creating for our emerging players who have shown the qualities to perform at the international level. He is a player for the future, one who has progressed from Under-15s to the senior level, and another Academy graduate to feature in an international squad this year,” said Daren Sammy in a CWI statement as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

Shamar Joseph has been picked for both the ODI and T20I squads after missing the Test tour in India. Alzarri Joseph is also back after being out with an injury, though Cricket West Indies (CWI) hasn’t said what the injury was.

Motie, who also missed the India tour, has been given a rest so the team can manage his workload before next year’s T20 World Cup. The Bangladesh series will be West Indies’ second-to-last series of the year.

"The squad assembled will strive to maintain a winning mentality and strong team cohesion, essential components for long-term success ahead of the World Cup. Facing Bangladesh provides another opportunity to earn crucial points in our push for automatic qualification to the showpiece event,” said Sammy.

West Indies Announce ODI Squad for Bangladesh Tour with New and Returning Players

For the T20Is, left-arm fast bowler Ramon Simmonds and wicketkeeper-batter Amir Jangoo have been added to the squad. Jangoo will be the backup wicketkeeper behind captain Shai Hope. Simmonds has been in great form, taking 13 wickets for the Barbados Royals in the 2025 CPL and recording 4 wickets for 15 runs in his second T20I against Nepal last month.

Cricket West Indies said these selections are aimed at giving players experience in subcontinent conditions before the Bangladesh series. Motie, Keacy Carty, Sherfane Rutherford, Auguste, and Jangoo will train at the Chennai Super Kings Academy before the tour.

"With the 2026 T20 World Cup around the corner, it is important for our players to get as much practice as possible in these conditions, with that tournament being held in India and Sri Lanka. In addition to the important aspect of acclimatisation, the camp will feature skill and tactical training and development specific to those conditions, which is critical to preparing the players ahead of this series as well as next year's World Cup,” said CWI director of cricket Miles Bascombe.
