ACC Plans New Tournaments Including Legends of Asia Cup to Promote Cricket in Asia
The Asian Cricket Council (ACC), led by president Mohsin Naqvi, is planning to launch new tournaments to help grow the game across the region. A special meeting, chaired by Naqvi, was held at the ACC headquarters to review the preparations for the Asia Cup Rising Stars 2025 and the U19 Premier Asia Cup.
Earlier called the Emerging Asia Cup, the Rising Stars tournament will feature teams from eight countries Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Oman and Hong Kong. The Test-playing nations India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan will send their A teams, while UAE, Hong Kong and Oman will compete with their full senior squads.
‘Legends of Asia Cup’ and Women’s Matches Under Discussion
The eight teams have been split into two groups of four. Group A includes Pakistan, India, UAE and Oman, while Group B has Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Hong Kong the same format used in the senior men’s tournament held last month. The ACC also shared its satisfaction with the strong viewership and fan turnout for the Men’s T20 Asia Cup 2025, which took place in the UAE in September.
During the meeting, the ACC also talked in detail about what’s coming up next. The council is planning to start a league for its associate members and is also thinking about launching some fresh events like the Legends of Asia Cup. ACC president Mohsin Naqvi asked for the final plans for these new tournaments and everyone agreed that more women’s matches should be held between the member nations.
“We want to promote the game of cricket to as many countries in Asia as possible. We will support Asian countries in every way to promote cricket,” said Naqvi.
