Aakash Chopra on What Mumbai Indians Should Change in Overseas Player Management

Former India batter Aakash Chopra believes that the Mumbai Indians (MI) should be more patient with their foreign signings. Speaking on YouTube about the IPL 2026 auction, Chopra recalled how MI once had Dewald Brevis, Tristan Stubbs, Tim David, and Cameron Green in the same squad but later released all of them.
While these players didn’t shine much for MI at the time, they have since impressed for other franchises. Chopra feels MI’s lack of patience has cost them valuable overseas stars.
“The Mumbai Indians figure out talent quickly, but they let go of four overseas players in one year — Brevis, Stubbs, Tim David, and Cameron Green. Now, none of them are with MI,” Chopra said.
He added that MI has a great record of finding Indian talent, but should apply the same patience to their overseas recruits, especially young players.
“You let them go when they are raw, but over time they become polished stars for other teams,” Chopra explained.

Chopra also predicted that Cameron Green could become the most expensive player in the IPL 2026 auction.
“Green’s batting form since returning from injury has been superb. He isn’t bowling yet but will start at some stage. If he bowls and continues batting this well, he could break the bank,” Chopra said.
He believes Green’s all-around skills make him one of the most in-demand players ahead of the auction.
