5 Records Nitish Kumar Reddy Created During His Stunning Ton in BGT 4th Test

Nitish Kumar Reddy snatched the show for India on day three of the fourth Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) Test of 2024-25 in Melbourne, which brought a sparkling century and kept the Indian innings going in the Boxing Day battle.
In response to Australia's impressive first innings of 474, India were fighting at 221/7. The match was going in Australia's favor when Reddy and Washington Sundar staged a crucial partnership of 127 runs saving India from the follow-on and with rain delays, providing them with a glimmer of hope of saving the match.
Reddy has been India's standout batter, currently second only to Travis Head on the run-scorers list in his very first Test series. At just 21 years of age, his composure and talent have been remarkable. Let's take a look at the top five records Reddy achieved during his incredible century at MCG.
Five Milestones Achieved by Nitish Kumar Reddy with His Century in the MCG Test
1. First Indian to Score a Test Century in Australia at No. 8
Nitish Kumar Rеddy created history when he became the first Indian batter to score a Test century in Australia batting at number 8. At the same timе, he etched his name as the first batsman ever to accomplish this at the MCG. All over the globe, he is the only fifth batter who scored his century batting at No 8 in Australia.
Interestingly, Reddy was initially slated to bat at No. 7 but Akash Deep was sent in as a nightwatchman on Day 2 which pushed Reddy down the order.
2. Highest Score by an Indian at No. 8 or Lower in Australia
This puts Reddy at the helm of having gone past Anil Kumble's record for the highest score by an Indian batter batting at No. 8 or below in Australia, as he achieved 87 runs. The record was set by Kumble in 2008 in Adelaide, but with this hundred, Reddy has managed to take that top position.
3. Third-Youngest Indian to Score a Test Century in Australia
At just 21 years and 216 days of age, Reddy became the third-youngest Indian to score a Test hundred in Australia. Only Sachin Tendulkar and Rishabh Pant achieved this feat at a younger age:
18 years, 256 days: Sachin Tendulkar (Sydney, 1992)
21 years, 92 days: Rishabh Pant (Sydney, 2019)
21 years, 216 days: Nitish Kumar Reddy (Melbourne, 2024)
4. Most Sixes in a Test Series in Australia by an Indian
Reddy has already hit eight sixes in the current Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He thus created a new record of sixes hit by an Indian in the Test series played in Australia. Before him, only two players-Virender Sehwag (2003/04) and Murali Vijay (2014/15)-could achieve six sixes.
5. Partnership Record for the 8th Wicket with Sundar
The 127-run stand between Reddy and Washington Sundar is now India's second-highest partnership for the eighth wicket in Australia. They missed out on breaking the record of 129 runs between Sachin Tendulkar and Harbhajan Singh in Sydney, 2008.
