About The Oman

The Oman men’s national cricket team represents Oman in international cricket competitions, governed by Oman Cricket. Oman Cricket became an Affiliate Member of the International Cricket Council in 2000 and gained Associate Member status in 2014. Oman has competed in Twenty20 International matches and achieved One-Day International status for the first time in 2019 after defeating Namibia, the hosts, by four wickets in the 2019 ICC World Cricket League Division Two. Oman will retain One-Day International status through 2023.

Oman became an affiliate member of the International Cricket Council in 2000. The team made their senior international debut at the 2002 ACC Trophy, where they won only one match against Qatar and failed to advance past the first round. In 2004, Oman showed vast improvement by reaching the ACC Trophy final before losing to the United Arab Emirates. This qualification for the final earned Oman a spot in the 2005 ICC Trophy, the final qualifying stage for the 2007 Cricket World Cup, as well as the 2006 Asia Cup. Later in 2004, Oman won the Middle East Cup after tying Bahrain in the championship match and defeating them earlier in the group stage. Most recently, in the 2014 ACC Premier League in Malaysia, Oman finished 4th place overall with three wins.

In April 2018, the ICC decided to grant full Twenty20 International (T20I) status to all its members. Therefore, all Twenty20 matches played between Oman and other ICC Members after 1 January 2019 have the full T20I status.

Most cricket in Oman is played by expatriate Indians and Pakistanis (and their descendants), rather than by native Omanis – in 2010, only 100 of the 780 players (around 13 percent) in the national league were Arabs.
