Yorkshire sign Faheem Ashraf for Vitality Blast, County Championship
Pakistan all-rounder Faheem Ashraf has been roped in by Yorkshire County Cricket Club for the upcoming county season. Faheem, who is expected to be available for the group stages of the Vitality Blast as well as County Championship rounds seven and eight, will replace Australia’s Will Sutherland, who has been ruled out of the competition with an injury.
Faheem’s T20 career
The all-rounder will be featuring in his second county cricket stint, having previously played for Northamptonshire in the 2019 Vitality Blast. During his stay, he grabbed 11 wickets in as many games, though he was unimpressive with the bat, scoring 36 runs in seven innings.
Besides the Blast, Faheem is a regular in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), while also having featured in the Big Bash League (BBL) and Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
“I’m delighted to be joining Yorkshire. Many of my fellow Pakistan players have represented the club and have spoken highly of both the environment and the quality of players within the squad,” Faheem said on his signing by the club. “I’m really looking forward to arriving at Headingley.”
Yorkshire expect Faheem to strengthen lower order
Yorkshire’s General Manager of Cricket, Gavin Hamilton, said the club expects Faheem to chip in with runs down the order.
“Faheem is an experienced multi-format player who will be a really valuable addition to the squad,” Hamilton said. “He brings a great ability to score quick lower-order runs as well as the skill to make a real impact with the ball.”
