Punjab Kings (PBKS) are going through a difficult phase in IPL 2026 after suffering five consecutive defeats. On Thursday, PBKS lost a close last-over thriller against Mumbai Indians in Dharamsala despite posting 200 runs in the first innings.

The defeat was a disappointing one for Shreyas Iyer and his team, especially because the pitch offered help for fast bowlers. Even after putting up a big total, PBKS bowlers failed to defend the score against a struggling Mumbai side. Punjab had started their IPL 2026 campaign strongly by winning six of their first seven matches. But their sudden losing streak has now put pressure on their playoff hopes. Still, despite the poor run, PBKS continue to hold the fourth position in the points table with 13 points from 12 matches.

What PBKS Need To Qualify For IPL 2026 Playoffs

The qualification equation for Punjab Kings is now quite simple. In most IPL seasons, 16 points are usually enough to secure a playoff spot. PBKS currently have 13 points, which means they need to win both of their remaining matches to comfortably qualify for the playoffs.

If Punjab finish with 17 points, they should qualify without depending on other results. However, another loss could make things complicated and bring net run rate into the picture.
