Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Gets Maiden India A ODI Call-Up for Sri Lanka Tri-Series 2026

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has announced the India A squad for the ODI tri-series against Afghanistan A and Sri Lanka A in Dambulla, Sri Lanka. The matches will begin less than 10 days after the end of IPL 2026.

Tilak Varma will continue as India A captain after leading the team against South Africa A last year. Riyan Parag has been promoted to vice-captain since Ruturaj Gaikwad has become part of the senior team. Injured Khaleel Ahmed misses out as Gujarat Titans’ Arshad Khan replaces him.

Other fast bowlers, Yash Thakur, Yudhvir Singh, and Anshul Kamboj, come into the team with Harshit Rana injured and Prasidh Krishna and Arshdeep Singh managing their workloads and focusing on senior cricket. The main point of discussion is Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s inclusion. The 15-year-old had made his India A debut last year in the Asia Cup Rising Stars.

However, this is his first call-up for an unofficial ODI series. Ishan Kishan and Abhishek Sharma, who were part of the South Africa A series, have not been selected this time. As a result, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Priyansh Arya have replaced them in the squad. Suryansh Shedge and Anukul Roy are the other new faces in the team. India A will also play 4-day games in Galle against Sri Lanka A after the tri-series ends. The fixtures for that will be announced later since India is to play Afghanistan in a one-off Test from June 6 to 10 in Punjab.

 “India A will also play two multi-day matches against Sri Lanka A, with the squad for the red-ball fixtures to be announced at a later date,” the BCCI said.
