TSK vs WF Highlights: Gous Unbeaten 80, Owen’s All-Round Show Extend Winning Streak to Four

TSK vs WF HighlightsBlistering half-centuries from Mitch Owen and Andries Gous helped Washington Freedom secure their fourth straight win in MLC 2025, chasing down Texas Super Kings’ 220/6 with two balls to spare. The win lifted them to second place on the points table. Owen and Rachin Ravindra gave Freedom a rapid start, smashing five boundaries in the first eight balls. Although Ravindra was dismissed during the powerplay, Owen capitalized on an early life dropped on 20 in the third over to make the Super Kings pay.

Despite the fast start, Washington Freedom were still trailing the required run rate at the end of the eighth over, having scored just 72 runs. However, Mitch Owen got another lifeline when he was dropped again on 42 in the ninth over, and a no-ball followed soon after. That shift in momentum allowed the Australian opener to cut loose, and he took full advantage by hitting Marcus Stoinis for back-to-back sixes.

The game swung in Washington Freedom’s favor in the 12th over when Noor Ahmad was smashed for 22 runs, followed by Andries Gous taking 24 off Donovan Ferreira in the next. A tight over from Marcus Stoinis and the dismissal of Mitch Owen for 89 gave Texas Super Kings a brief opening.

Stoinis Fights Back, but Phillips Finishes the Job in Final Over

However, Gous and Glenn Maxwell struck some powerful blows in the final overs, bringing the target down to just five runs needed from the last over. Stoinis bowled a tricky mix of yorkers and full tosses, but Glenn Phillips sealed the win with a boundary through backward point on the fourth ball. Gous stayed unbeaten on 80 his highest score in MLC.

Earlier in the day, Faf du Plessis powered Texas Super Kings to a strong total with a blazing 69 off just 31 balls his second consecutive fifty-plus score in a losing effort. He and Smit Patel gave TSK a flying start, adding 55 runs in the first five overs.

TSK got handy contributions from several batters, but a slowdown during the middle overs—especially against Glenn Maxwell proved costly. The Freedom captain bowled tightly, giving away just 35 runs and taking two wickets. Mitch Owen also chipped in with three wickets before shining with the bat. A late flourish from Calvin Savage and Shubham Ranjane put together a rapid 36 off 14 balls, helped TSK post 220.
