T20 World Cup 2026: ICC to Avoid Quick Decision on Relocating Bangladesh Matches After BCCI-BCB Setback
The International Cricket Council (ICC) is not eager to make such a rash call regarding Bangladesh's request to move their fixtures of the T20 World Cup from India to Sri Lanka. This is after the BCB sent a letter to the ICC expressing security fears regarding their cricketers in India as well as wanting to move their fixtures to another location. This is after the BCCI asked KKR to release Mustafizur Rahman due to heightened tensions between their two countries.
ICC Avoids Hasty Shift Call After BCCI–BCB Setback
As reported by Cricbuzz, ICC representatives are of the view that ICC should not be pulled into a situation that was a fight between BCCI and BCB. According to the same report, ICC will not rush to a conclusion and will instead clarify to the BCB regarding why they are unable to move the matches. Apart from that, this report also suggests that BCCI will play a critical role regarding this situation since they are co-hosts. This news comes after a similar report had earlier stated that ICC is amenable to a BD request.
According to the initial schedule for the T20 World Cup, Bangladesh would take on three matches in Kolkata and one in Mumbai in the group stage. Earlier in the day, a source in the BCCI had also disclosed, "Moving the matches to Sri Lanka would prove to be a nightmare as this has been brought up at the last moment."
Incredibly complicated issue that ICC have on their hands here. With the Bangladesh government involved, ICC will have no option but to relocate the matches. This is very much a political issue now.

BCB said that,
“An emergency meeting of the Board of Directors of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) was held this afternoon to discuss recent developments related to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, scheduled to be hosted by India and Sri Lanka.
The Board reviewed the situation in detail, taking into account developments over the last 24 hours and expressed deep concern over the overall circumstances surrounding the participation of the Bangladesh National Team in matches scheduled to be played in India.
BCB said in a statement,
Following a thorough assessment of the prevailing situation and the growing concerns regarding the safety and security of the Bangladesh contingent in India and considering the advice from the Bangladesh Government, the Board of Directors resolved that the Bangladesh National Team will not travel to India for the tournament under the current conditions.
In light of this decision, the BCB has formally requested the International Cricket Council (ICC), as the event authority, to consider relocating all of Bangladesh’s matches to a venue outside India. The Board believes that such a step is necessary to safeguard the safety and well-being of Bangladeshi players, team officials, Board members and other stakeholders and to ensure that the team can participate in the tournament in a secure and appropriate environment. The Bangladesh Cricket Board looks forward to the ICC’s understanding of the situation and an urgent response on this matter.”
