Sunrisers Hyderabad Sign Gerald Coetzee as Replacement for David Payne in IPL 2026
Sunrisers Hyderabad has again made a squad change for their IPL 2026 team. Fast bowler David Payne is ruled out due to his injury in his ankle. He was introduced into the side after replacing Jack Edwards. However, now SRH has brought in another fast bowler, Gerald Coetzee for INR 2 crore.
SRH Strengthen Pace Attack with Gerald Coetzee Signing in IPL 2026
The fast-bowling unit of SRH has been underperforming this season. Harshal Patel, Jaydev Unadkat, and Eshan Malinga failed to deliver their best performance, which cost the team dearly. In 20 games, SRH had the highest economy rate (11.47) and one of the highest bowling averages (45.4).
However, things started looking up for SRH once their young boys Praful Hinge and Sakib Hussain were given chances. Both of them delivered outstanding performances by picking four wickets each and helping SRH win an exciting game against Rajasthan Royals.
SRH had already acquired Dilshan Madushanka as the replacement for injured Brydon Carse. However, his inclusion in the playing XI is yet to be confirmed. Besides, there are several other Indian bowlers, namely Shivam Mavi and Onkar Tarmale, that could be considered by the franchise.
Coetzee is a quick and fiery bowler who can bowl with pace and cause difficulties for the batters. In the 2023 ODI World Cup, he made a remarkable performance and was later signed by the Mumbai Indians. He managed to take 13 wickets in 10 matches during his debut season. However, he was later chosen by Gujarat Titans where he participated in 4 matches and secured 2 wickets. Lately, he has also performed impressively against New Zealand, recording 8 wickets in 5 matches.
SRH supporters will be delighted as their captain, Pat Cummins, is expected to return to the team shortly. Cummins has cleared his fitness test and is expected to participate in the next match against the Rajasthan Royals scheduled for April 25.
