Stokes Reflects on England's Underwhelming Performance After Consecutive Losses

RAWALPINDI, Pakistan (AP) — England's performance in the recent test matches fell short, highlighted by missed opportunities and critical errors. In the second test, they dropped two vital catches of Salman Ali Agha, which contributed to Pakistan securing a 77-run lead in their first innings after England had them at 187-7.

The English top order struggled against Ali and Khan, especially following Harry Brook's impressive triple century and Joe Root's career-best 262 in the first test. Ollie Pope, who captained in Stokes' absence due to a hamstring injury, had a disappointing series, amassing only 55 runs in six innings.

Ben Stokes, returning for the last two tests, scored 1, 37, 12, and 3, culminating in a dismal exit when he was adjudged lbw to Ali's arm ball. Reflecting on the series, Stokes stated, “We obviously underperformed because we’ve lost the last two games. We faced our own challenges and weren’t able to rise to them for long enough to achieve the results we wanted.”

He added, “We showcased our potential for brief moments during the last two games. However, failing to maintain that performance over a longer duration often leads to unfavorable outcomes, which is precisely what happened in these two matches.”
