Stadium Supervisor Blames PCB for Renovation Delays Ahead of Champions Trophy
The PCB is really facing a lot of embarrassment lately. Not only that, the board has failed to announce their squad for the Champions Trophy but also renovation work at the stadiums in Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi is still incomplete. And January 31 is set to be the deadline to finish these renovations, but time is running out.
The supervisor of Karachi's stadium has pointed fingers at PCB for no proper equipment and clearance issues, which has led to a delay in the renovation process. The dates have already been extended from December 30 to January 25 as well. With the Champions Trophy scheduled to start on February 19, things are getting worse day by day.
The in charge of the project, Bilal Chohan, pointed out that PCB's delays were affecting his work. He gave the example of how he was awaiting the installation of panels for the stadium, but in that case, the cargo had only reached Karachi port late on Sunday. "This is the kind of situation we are faced with, but it frustrating that people criticize us," said Chohan in the PTI report.
However, PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi has insisted that all three stadiums will be ready on time. The worst part for the PCB is that these same stadiums are scheduled to host a tri-series between New Zealand, South Africa, and Pakistan from February 8 to 14.
A source following the construction work was quoted by PTI, saying, "Look, the stadiums will be ready to host matches, but the real question is whether the PCB can deliver the world-class experience they've promised at these renovated venues for the Tri-series and Champions Trophy. Whether they can live up to that promise remains to be seen."
