Sri Lanka Names 15-Player Squad for Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 with Athapaththu as Captain

Sri Lanka Names 15-Player Squad for Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 with Athapaththu as CaptainSri Lanka has announced its 15-player squad for the Women’s ODI World Cup starting on September 30. The first match will be between India and Sri Lanka in Guwahati. Chamari Athapaththu, the experienced all-rounder, will lead the team again. Players like Harshitha Samarawickrama, Nilakshika de Silva and Anushka Sanjeewani will support her with their skills and experience.

Seasoned left-arm bowler Udeshika Prabodhani is back in the team after a year-long break due to injury. She had been dealing with a long-standing hamstring problem, but her return strengthens Sri Lanka’s fast-bowling attack alongside 35-year-old Achini Kulasuriya and 24-year-old Malki Madara.

Imesha Dulani, the 23-year-old batter who missed out on the home tri-series against India and South Africa, has made her way back into the squad. Teenagers Rashmika Sewwandi and 17-year-old Manudi Nanayakkara along with batter Hansima Karunaratne and spinner Inoshi Fernando were left out this time. Dulani comes in to replace Nanayakkara and is set to be the backup batter in a strong Sri Lankan lineup featuring Perera, Vishmi Gunaratne, Harshitha Samarawickrama, Kavisha Dilhari, Nilakshi de Silva, Piumi Wathsala and Anushka Sanjeewani.

Sri Lanka also has a strong spin attack to tackle the turning subcontinent pitches. Even with Inoshi Fernando missing out, Dewmi Vihanga, Inoka Ranaweera and Sugandika Kumari provide a solid spin option, while all-rounders Athapaththu and Dilhari can contribute with the ball if needed. After starting their campaign against India, Sri Lanka will play their next four games at home in Colombo, travel to Navi Mumbai to face Bangladesh and then return home for their final league match against Pakistan.
