Shubman Gill begins rehab at BCCI Centre of Excellence ahead of India vs South Africa T20I series

His recovery is going well, and he has not felt any discomfort despite several flights. He has stayed away from the nets during this time but is expected to start batting soon under the BCCI medical team’s supervision. According to reports on November 23, Gill was planned to reach Bengaluru on December 1 or 2, about a week before the T20I series against South Africa begins.

“There are no problems at the moment, and he has traveled on several flights, Kolkata to Guwahati, Guwahati to Mumbai, Mumbai to Chandigarh, and now Chandigarh to Bengaluru – without any issues. The focus is on getting him back on the field safely, but it will not be rushed.

“As soon as he is 100% and ready, he will join the squad. He is an important player in all formats, and everyone wants him fully fit,” said an official aware of the situation.

After hurting his neck in the first innings of the first Test against South Africa in Kolkata, Gill was taken to the hospital and missed that match as well as the next one in Guwahati. He traveled with the team for the second game but could not get match fit in the short time. In Mumbai, Gill saw a spine specialist and was told to rest more before starting rehab, training, and practice.

The next few days will be important to decide if he can play in the five-match T20I series against South Africa, starting December 9. Having already missed the Tests and ODIs, Gill is working hard to get fit for the T20s.
