Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma Likely to Play in Ranji Trophy: Reports

Shubman Gill, a star batter from India, could join the Punjab team for their next match in the Ranji Trophy against Karnataka. This matchup is part of the Elite Group C's sixth match of the 2024-25 season and it's happening from January 23 to 26. According to the reports from the Indian Express, the 25-year-old right-hander, Fazilka might be playing for Punjab in this game. he has scored 4,481 runs in his 60 first-class matches.

Gill had a tough time during the test series against Australia, where India ended up on the losing side, 1-3. He sat out the first test because of a finger injury and when he did play in the next couple of matches, his scores weren't impressive, hitting just 31, 28, and 1. They left him out of the Boxing Day test for some strategic reasons but he got another chance in the match at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Gill’s Struggles in Australia: A Chance to Bounce Back

When he got a chance to bat at No. 3 in the last test, he only managed to make 20 runs in the first innings and 13 in the second innings. His performance throughout the matches was somewhat quiet. Despite being regarded as a rising star in Indian cricket, Gill is yet to make a significant mark in Test matches.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma is also thinking about playing in the Ranji Trophy. Rohit also told the Mumbai team's officials that he plans to attend a practice session Tuesday morning at Wankhede Stadium, as reported by the Indian Express.

One of the MCA officials announced that Rohit hasn’t confirmed his availability for Mumbai’s upcoming Ranji Trophy league match against Jammu & Kashmir. “He will join the practice sessions, but he hasn’t decided yet if he will play. He will inform us soon,”
