Former Australian spinner Brad Hogg has pointed out that Virat Kohli's overaggressive approach in the second Test against New Zealand in Pune led to his disappointing performance. Kohli's mindset shift contributed significantly to his struggles, as he attempted to dominate the bowlers but ended up overanalyzing the situation. He managed only 1 and 17 runs in his two innings.

Hogg noted that India's complacency towards New Zealand has put them on the back foot. He emphasized the need for both Kohli and Rohit Sharma to step up in the upcoming third Test in Mumbai. Hogg critiqued Sharma’s technique against Tim Southee and stressed that Kohli must maintain focus from the very first ball.

India finds itself trailing 0-2 in the series, having lost the first Test in Bengaluru by 8 wickets and the second in Pune by 113 runs. This marks their first home Test series defeat in 12 years.
