Former India Chief Selector MSK Prasad has expressed skepticism about Nitish Kumar Reddy's potential impact in Test cricket, comparing him unfavorably to Hardik Pandya. Despite being selected for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, Prasad believes Reddy's selection may be premature.
Reddy's recent performances in the IPL with Sunrisers Hyderabad and the T20I series against Bangladesh, where he scored 74 runs off 34 balls and took two wickets in one match, led to his fast-tracking into the Test squad. However, Prasad highlighted that Reddy's bowling speed ranges from 125-130 kmph, lacking the pace of Pandya, who can reach 140 kmph.
Concerns were raised over Reddy's experience in red-ball cricket, as he has not played enough matches at this level. Although he took 25 wickets in domestic cricket, Prasad remains unconvinced about his readiness for the role Pandya has filled in limited Test opportunities. He hopes Reddy will perform well in the upcoming India A matches.
Prasad first recognized Reddy's potential during his Under-12 and Under-14 cricket days in Andhra Pradesh. India will be aiming to extend their decade-long unbeaten run against Australia in the Test arena.
India's squad for the Australia Tests includes Rohit Sharma (captain), Jasprit Bumrah, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Abhimanyu Easwaran, and Shubman Gill.
