PSL 2025 Schedule Update: Evening Matches to Begin at 8 PM as PCB Adjusts to IPL Timing Pressure

The Pakistan Super League (PSL) management has decided to start its matches one hour after the Indian Premier League (IPL) games in order to reduce the direct broadcast overlap. In a podcast, PSL CEO Salman Naseer said that the PSL fixtures will start at 8:00 p.m. after the IPL matches start at 7 p.m. The league is set to start on Friday (today), April 11 in Rawalpindi. This is the first time that both tournaments are being held at the same time. Naseer said that the packed calendar at the beginning of the year forced them to schedule the PSL for April and May.
“It’s not the most ideal scenario, but we’re confident that the PSL has its own loyal fan base and will continue to draw strong viewership,” Naseer stated.
“The PSL has consistently delivered high-quality, competitive cricket, and we expect no different this year. In the end, cricket fans everywhere simply want to watch thrilling, closely-fought matches,” Naseer added.
PCB Urges Franchises to Address Issues Privately, Not Publicly
Since the PSL is marking its tenth edition, Naseer mentioned that several new elements have been introduced to enhance the broadcast experience. He noted that one advantage of scheduling the PSL alongside the IPL is that franchises were able to recruit several high-profile international players who went unsold in the IPL. Furthermore, he revealed that interested parties have approached the PSL regarding the acquisition of two new franchises are expected to join the competition next year.
When asked about the strained relationship between some franchise owners and PSL management—some of whom have criticized the PCB's management of the league in public—Naseer said that it was not appropriate for anyone to vent grievances in public.
"Look, we would think that all franchises have benefited from their association with the PSL over the years. But we also feel that instead of going public it would be best if they spoke and communicated to us directly on any issues they might have."
