PCB mulls legal action over players leaving PSL for IPL
Pakistan Super League (PSL) is just three days away, and the league is still dealing with late withdrawals. These withdrawals are hardly unusual. With the Indian Premier League (IPL) running at the same time, several players, including Gudakesh Motie, Dasun Shanaka, and Blessing Muzarabani, have pulled out of the PSL after bagging deals in the cash-rich IPL.
PCB warns of legal action
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman has said the board will take legal action against players who violated their contracts by making a late shift to the IPL.
“We will take action against those players according to the rules,” Naqvi said. “There was a case last year too, and the same thing will happen this time.”
Previous cases and penalties
Last year, Peshawar Zalmi’s Corbin Bosch made a similar shift, albeit mid-season, to replace Lizaad Williams in the Mumbai Indians. Bosch was subsequently banned from featuring in the PSL for one year as a penalty.
PSL-IPL window clash
The two leagues share the same window this year because of the T20 World Cup taking place during February-March, the usual PSL window. Naqvi reiterated that Pakistan cannot postpone the league and has to run it concurrently with the IPL.
“The clash with the IPL is not a problem because if players are leaving for there, we are getting excellent players coming here as well. We could not afford to postpone the PSL because we have no other window available all year.”
