Pakistan vs Australia 2nd ODI - Team overview, head-to-head, & live streaming details
Pakistan are 1-0 up in the series, which means another win could hand them their second consecutive ODI series victory against Australia. This will be a first in the two teams' bilateral record.
Unlike Rawalpindi, where Australia had turned up for the first time since 1994 in an ODI game, Lahore is more familiar territory for them. But Australia's record there is hardly impressive, especially against Pakistan. In a bilateral series here in 2022, Australia lost all three games. Though they did beat England the last time they played a one-day game here during the 2025 Champions Trophy.
Team Overview:
Australia had to manage without Adam Zampa, who suffered a neck spasm, in the first ODI. That meant, besides missing players to IPL, rest, and injuries, they were short on another player. Matt Renshaw said, despite all the misfortune that befell them, his side's bowlers did well to slow down Pakistan batters as much as they could.
And in a way, he has a valid point. Runs did not flow as easily in the second innings as one would expect on a dew-drenched outfield. Also, had it not been for a low total, Pakistan might have found themselves in a spot of bother, having lost three wickets, Babar Azam, Ghazi Ghori, and Salman Ali Agha, in quick succession.
Pakistan, however, do not have to worry about the things that did not occur, especially when they have an exciting talent to gush over. Arafat Minhas did the unthinkable on his debut ODI game, having taken five wickets. But his brilliance did somewhat overshadow Ghazi Ghori's hard-fought 65-run innings. The innings becomes more special knowing Ghori was playing just his second ODI.
Pitch report:
The surface in the first game very obviously inclined towards slower bowlers, more so in the first innings when the dew didn't factor in. And going by how Mike Hesson believes such spin tracks will help Pakistan prepare better for the World Cup, the decks in the next two games could get the same treatment as well. Similarly, dew will likely be a fixture in the second innings, which renders the toss crucial.
Head-to-head matches:
In 112 total matches between the two teams, Australia dominate the match-up with 71 wins, while Pakistan were the better side in only 37 of those.
