No Handshakes Expected as India Prepares to Face Pakistan in Women’s World Cup

BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia said that Team India will stick to all the usual rules and protocols when they face Pakistan in the Women’s World Cup. However, he also mentioned that there is no surety about whether the players will exchange handshakes or hugs. The big match will be played on October 5 at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

The handshake issue between the two teams started during the recent Asia Cup, where the Indian players did not shake hands with the Pakistan team in any of the three games. A similar situation is likely when the two sides face each other in the Women’s World Cup.

“I cannot forecast anything, but our relationship with that particular hostile country is the same, there is no change in the last week. India will play that match against Pakistan in Colombo, and all cricket protocols will be followed. I can only assure that whatever is in the MCC regulations of cricket, that will be done. Whether there will be handshakes, whether there will be hugging, I cannot assure you of anything at this moment," Saikia Said.

No Handshakes in India vs Pakistan

On the other hand, a BCCI source recently told PTI that there will be no usual handshakes either at the toss or after the match when the two teams meet.

“The BCCI is aligned with the government and there will be no customary handshake at the toss, no photo-shoot with the match referee, and no end-of-game handshakes. The policy followed by the men will also be implemented by the women," the source said.

India kicked off their Women's World Cup campaign with an impressive 59-run win over Sri Lanka in the opening match. The Women in Blue put on a strong performance, especially with the ball, defending their total of 270 by bowling out Sri Lanka for 211. Meanwhile, Pakistan will be looking to get their tournament off to a winning start when they take on Bangladesh in their first game.
