Minhajul Abedin Hints at Return to Bangladesh Cricket Selection Panel

Minhajul Abedin Hints at Return to Bangladesh Cricket Selection Panel

[ Poll: DLvK68ZW ]

Former chief selector Minhajul Abedin hinted at his possible return to the Bangladesh selection panel after having headed the committee for eight years between 2016 and 2024, when he was replaced by Gazi Ashraf Hossain in March 2024 for two years. However, following the expiration of Hossain's term, he has said that he does not want to continue in the position for personal reasons. So now, BCB are starting to look for someone suitable to replace him.

Minhajul Abedin Considers Return to Bangladesh Cricket Selection Panel

For the first time ever, BCB has posted publicly an ad for positions on the national team’s selection panel and asked anyone interested in being considered for a position to submit a CV by March 8. Habibul Bashar, one of the candidates considered strongest to replace Ashraf as the BCB’s national team selector, is uncertain whether he will apply; he works for the BCB’s game development department. Minhajul, who serves as the BCB’s program manager at this time, appears to be similarly considering returning to the selection panel.

"I will talk with the CEO tomorrow (March 5) to know the applying procedure and a few other things as well considering I am not sure whether I will be applying for the chief selector or for something else," Minhajul said as quoted by Cricbuzz.

"I worked as chief selector for eight years so now I need to understand what will be my role in the selection panel if I apply. If everything goes well, I can think over it and apply for it but at the moment I am not sure about the process but if experience is considered as a major criterion in that case I feel I have got that in abundance due to my previous stint as national selection panel head though I am yet to make a final decision on whether I will apply for it or not but surely I am thinking about it,” he added.

Sources say that several former national cricketers are planning to apply for the two open spots on the selection panel. Among those reportedly interested are former left-arm spinner Mohammad Rafique, Naeem Islam, Shamsur Rahman and Javed Omar Belim, along with a few other notable names.
