Marsh to lead against Pakistan as Cummins, Hazlewood regain fitness
Mitchell Marsh will lead the Australian side in their three-game T20I series against Pakistan, starting January 29.
Injuries and workload management
Among the notable exclusions from the 17-member squad are Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Tim David, all three of whom are recovering from their respective injury setbacks.
In addition to them, Glenn Maxwell and Nathan Ellis have also been sidelined to manage their workload, though both of them, along with the injured trio are part of Australia’s T20 World Cup squad.
As a backup for these five players, uncapped players Mahli Beardman and Jack Edwards, along with Sean Abbott, Ben Dwarshius, Mitch Owen, Josh Philippe, and Matthew Rensha,w have been given a chance to make a case for World Cup inclusion.
The three-game T20I series will be played in its entirety at Gadaffi Stadium, Lahore and will serve as the final preparation for both Pakistan and Australia before they leave for the World Cup.
Australian team is expected to arrive in Pakistan on January 28, a day before the first game. After the opening T20I, there is day’s gap, with the next two T20Is scheduled for January 31 and February 1.
