Jasprit Bumrah Returns to No.1 in ICC Rankings After Stellar Performance Against Australia
In a spectacular display of bowling prowess, Jasprit Bumrah has reclaimed the top spot in the ICC Test Rankings for bowlers following his exceptional performance in the first Test against Australia. The match, held at the Optus Stadium, saw Bumrah deliver an impressive eight-wicket haul, earning him the coveted Player of the Match accolade.
India's commanding victory over Australia by 295 runs not only gave them a 1-0 lead in the five-match series but also marked a personal triumph for Bumrah. Prior to this series, Bumrah was ranked third, trailing behind South Africa's Kagiso Rabada and Australia's Josh Hazlewood. However, his current 883 ranking points have propelled him past Rabada, who holds 872 points, and Hazlewood with 860 points.
The Indian pace attack was further bolstered by Mohammed Siraj, who has made significant strides in the rankings as well. Siraj is now positioned at 25th, thanks to his impressive five-wicket performance against the Australian side led by Pat Cummins.
The batting department also witnessed notable shifts. Yashasvi Jaiswal has ascended to the No.2 position among Test batsmen following his outstanding 161-run contribution. With 825 points, Jaiswal sits behind England's Joe Root, who maintains the lead with 903 points.
Virat Kohli, a mainstay in the top echelons of batting rankings, has shown remarkable resilience. After slipping out of the top 20 following a subdued series against New Zealand, Kohli has surged nine places to reach 13th position, courtesy of a brilliant century in the second innings against Australia. Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant holds steady in the sixth spot with 736 points, highlighting his consistency and skill.
This series opener has set the stage for an intriguing contest, with players jostling for supremacy in both team and personal rankings. As the series progresses, all eyes will be on these key performers to see if they can maintain their form and influence the outcome of the remaining matches.
