James Anderson Extends Legendary Career with Lancashire into 2026 at Age 44

James Anderson, the legendary England fast bowler, is proving that age doesn’t matter. Even after retiring from international cricket in 2024, he’s still going strong. He had already agreed to play for Lancashire in the 2025 County Championship, but now, because he’s still playing so well, he’s been given a new contract to continue into the 2026 season, past his 44th birthday. His love for the game and strong performances show that he still has a lot to give.

James Anderson has signed a new one-year deal, which means his cricket career will now reach 25 years since he started playing for Lancashire in 2001. In 2025, the experienced fast bowler took 17 wickets in six County Championship matches and made a surprising comeback to T20 cricket after being away from it for ten years.

Those performances also helped Anderson earn his first chance to play franchise cricket, as he joined the Manchester Originals in The Hundred. Earlier this year, it was announced that Anderson would soon be knighted for everything he has done for cricket.

James Anderson ended his incredible career with 704 Test wickets, calling time on his playing days at Lord’s in 2024 after the first Test against the West Indies. He finished as the third-highest wicket-taker in Test history, behind only Muttiah Muralitharan and Shane Warne.

After retiring, Anderson took on a short stint as a bowling consultant with the England team. He stepped away from the role last summer to give his full attention to Lancashire.
