IPL 2026: Delhi Capitals Appoint Ian Bell as Assistant Coach Ahead of New Season

Delhi Capitals have confirmed that former England International player Ian Bell as their new Assistant Coach of IPL 2026. Bell is a former England player who has scored runs for England in almost 300 matches and has also appeared in 118 Test matches, 161 One Day Internationals, and 8 Twenty20s. Bell will also be starting his first coaching position in the IPL 2026.

Ian Bell was a cricket player until 2020. After he retired from all forms of cricket, since then he has had a very successful coaching career. He has coached the England Lions and Under 19 Teams and was the Batting Coach for the Sri Lanka Test team during the England tour in 2024.

In 2023, New Zealand's men's cricket team toured England before the Cricket World Cup. Bell assisted with coaching on this tour. Additionally, Bell was hired as an assistant coach with Birmingham Phoenix in the men's edition of The Hundred.

Bell will join the Capitals coaching staff with Director of Cricket Venugopal Rao, Head Coach Hemang Badani, and Bowling Coach Munaf Patel. The Capitals struggled after a solid start in the 2021 IPL, finishing 5th in the standings (and not qualifying for the playoffs). Australian coach Mott was an assistant for this team.
