Industrialist Anil Agarwal, founder of Vedanta Resources Limited and a native of Patna, recently backed the idea of a Bihar-based IPL team. In a post on X, Agarwal said Bihar deserves a franchise comparable to giants like Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders. He praised the state for consistently producing talented cricketers and argued that a franchise would not only provide world-class infrastructure but also inspire the next generation of players from Bihar.

The proposal has also received support from Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, who stated that the government is working in “mission mode” to strengthen cricket in the state. With IPL franchise values skyrocketing — recent sales of Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Rajasthan Royals reaching record-breaking figures — there is increasing speculation that the BCCI could eventually expand the league beyond 10 teams. If that happens, Anil Agarwal could emerge as a serious contender to bring an IPL franchise to Bihar, potentially transforming the cricketing landscape of the state forever.
