IPL 2026 Auction: 3 Teams Targeting England Star Jamie Smith

England’s young wicketkeeper Jamie Smith has quickly become one of the most exciting players in world cricket. In the second Test against India, the 24-year-old once again showed how good he is with the bat. He smashed a brilliant century off just 80 balls, making it the joint third-fastest hundred by an English player.
In a short time, Jamie Smith has grown into an important member of the England team. His strong performances are sure to catch the attention of IPL franchises ahead of the 2026 auction.
CSK are also searching for a wicketkeeping backup for MS Dhoni. They currently have Devon Conway and Urvil Patel, but Conway is likely to be released. On top of that, no one is sure whether Dhoni will play next season, and there are even rumours that CSK might try to trade for Sanju Samson.
If Samson chooses to stay with Rajasthan Royals, Jamie Smith could be a strong option for CSK to bring in as a replacement.
Delhi Capitals could also be a good fit for Jamie Smith. Their top order struggled in IPL 2025, with Faf du Plessis and Jake Fraser-McGurk not performing as expected. The Capitals also tried out the most number of opening combinations in the tournament (7) in a bid to find balance. Thus, DC would be willing to go after a fearless batter at the top. Smith would also add another wicketkeeping option alongside Abishek Porel and KL Rahul.
The three-time IPL champions are also looking for an overseas wicketkeeper who can open the batting, especially after Quinton de Kock and Rahmanullah Gurbaz struggled last season. KKR are likely to release both players before the IPL 2026 auction, which would open the door for them to go all-in for Jamie Smith.
