India’s Predicted Playing XI for Asia Cup 2025
India named their 15-man squad for the Asia Cup 2025 at a press conference in Mumbai on August 19 with chief selector Ajit Agarkar and T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav announcing the team. The tournament will be played in the UAE, where India are placed in Group A alongside Pakistan, Oman, and the hosts. Since the announcement fans have been debating India’s best possible Playing XI and IPL.com has shared a predicted lineup that could give the Men in Blue a strong chance of lifting the trophy again this year.
Abhishek–Gill: The Left-Right Opening Balance
The team management is likely to stick with the left-right opening pair of Abhishek Sharma and vice-captain Shubman Gill would push Sanju Samson into the role of backup opener. Though Abhishek didn’t score big runs in IPL 2025, his strike rate of 193.39 and consistent performances for India have kept him in the mix. Gill, meanwhile, is full of confidence after a brilliant Test series against England, both as captain and player. Tilak Varma has been busy playing for Hampshire in List A and County cricket is another aggressive option at the top.
Power Hitter in the Middle Order
Captain Suryakumar Yadav has the ability to shift gears with ease and is coming off a brilliant IPL 2025. He set a new record with 16 consecutive scores of 25-plus showing just how consistent and dangerous he can be. Jitesh Sharma has been locked in as India’s first-choice wicketkeeper and will likely bat at No. 5. Known for his quick-hitting style, he can provide important late runs when needed. His performances were also crucial in Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s title-winning season, where he even led the team in a few matches adding to his value.
Hardik Pandya: The Experienced Game-Changer
Hardik Pandya, with 114 T20Is to his name, brings the kind of experience that can change a game both with bat and ball. Apart from his big-hitting ability, he also provides value by bowling four useful overs when needed. Axar Patel had a solid all-round IPL 2025 and even captained Delhi Capitals, adds further balance. His flexibility with the bat, proven during the T20 World Cup 2024 allows him to slot in anywhere in the order, while his left-arm spin will be a key factor on UAE pitches.
A Balanced and Fearsome Bowling Unit
Kuldeep Yadav may not have featured in the recent Test series against England, which drew some criticism, but he comes into the Asia Cup on the back of his best IPL season in terms of economy rate finishing at 7.07. Alongside him, Jasprit Bumrah was rested for parts of the England series to manage his workload remains India’s key weapon with the ball. His death-bowling skills and clever variations make him a proven match-winner in the shortest format.
Arshdeep Singh also enjoyed a breakthrough IPL 2025, picking up 21 wickets in 16 innings and his ability to swing the new ball both ways will be especially handy under lights in UAE conditions. Varun Chakravarthy adds further depth to India’s spin attack having impressed in the Champions Trophy and the T20I series against England. With 17 wickets in IPL 2025 and strong form in the Tamil Nadu Premier League, he provides another reliable option in the bowling department.
