India vs England 2nd Test: Team India’s Test Records at Edgbaston

India vs England 2nd Test Team India’s Test Records at EdgbastonTeam India will play the second Test against England at Edgbaston, Birmingham, from July 2 to July 6. Across formats, India have played 169 matches in England with just nine Test wins, 45 ODIs and six T20Is. Test cricket at Edgbaston hasn’t been kind to them: they've never won there in eight attempts since their first match at the ground in 1967. But in ODIs, they've done better, winning 8 of 12. Edgbaston, founded in 1882 and hosting international games since 1902 is known for its lively crowd and as home to Warwickshire CCC .

Many people say that India's main strength is batting, but Indian batters haven’t done very well at this ground. India have scored over 300 runs only twice in 16 innings at Edgbaston. Their lowest total here is just 92. In their very first Test at this venue, India were all out for 92 in the first innings. The only time India managed a draw here was in 1967, which was also when they won the series.

Back in 1997, Alec Stewart scored centuries in both innings against Australia, helping England to a memorable 9-wicket win. In 2008, South Africa pulled off a stunning chase of 281 runs, with Graeme Smith scoring a match-winning 154*, leading them to a 5-wicket victory over England. In 2011, Alastair Cook scored 294 runs for England, helping them win by an innings and 242 runs. England’s total of 710/7 is still the highest Test score at Edgbaston. In 2022, India gave England a target of 378 runs. But England chased it down in just 76.4 overs and won the match by 7 wickets.
