The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced that the 2025–26 domestic cricket season will start with the Hanif Mohammad Trophy (HMT) on Friday, 29 August. In this four-day, non-first-class tournament, 12 regional teams will compete for two spots in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy. The tournament will run until Thursday, 25 September.

Earlier, it was planned to begin on 15 August, but the start has been pushed back to ensure Pakistan Shaheens’ players are available for their regional teams.

The tournament will run for 28 days and have five rounds, with six matches in each round. Every team will play five matches, and the team finishing at the top of each group will qualify for the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, the top first-class tournament, which will start right after the Hanif Mohammad Trophy.

The 12 regional sides are set to assemble their squads from the pool of their past seasons’ performers and top performers of Regional Inter-District three-day tournament, which took place in June and July across the country.
