ECB Brings in Night Curfew for Harry Brook’s England Ahead of T20 World Cup and Sri Lanka Tour

The England and Wales Cricket Board(ECB) has announced that the England and Wales Cricket team will observe a midnight curfew during their upcoming white-ball series in Sri Lanka and also during the T20 World Cup of 2026.

England to Follow Strict Midnight Curfew in Sri Lanka and T20 World Cup After Off-Field Incidents

According to The Daily Mail Sport,

The ECB has reportedly already notified ODI & T20I captain Harry Brook and head coach Brendon McCullum about the limits imposed on them. The team and management will be given a reminder of this upon arrival in Sri Lanka later today.

As per curfew guidelines, the players must report to the premises of the team hotel by 12 at night. This is applicable throughout their stay in both Sri Lanka and India, and is not restricted to the days of match schedules. No player should violate these guidelines without prior permission.

The decisions were taken by the ECB due to some incidents that had happened during the England team’s white-ball tour to New Zealand in the year 2025 and during the Ashes series in the year 2025-26. Brook, the England white-ball team’s captain, had been involved in all those incidents.

Though it was revealed after England lost the Ashes series 1-4, Brook was involved in an altercation and was punched by a bouncer on the night before England was set to play New Zealand on November 1 at Wellington. For this, a warning and a fine of £30,000 (approximately INR 36 lakh) had been imposed on Brook by the ECB.

The Ashes series had been arranged for a 6-day break in Noosa by England. It was labelled as a stag do event by many. It was recorded that Ben Duckett was seen late at night leaving a drinking establishment in a state where he was unable to talk.

England had been staying at a casino hotel during the Ashes, which raised several questions for them as well. During one such occasion, while having lunch, a stranger helped Brydon Carse retrieve thousands of dollars that had come flying out of his pocket.
