
BCCI Sacks Assistant Coach Abhishek Nayar and Two Others Following Poor Show in Australia
After a tough loss in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 in Australia and rumors of issues within the dressing room, the BCCI has reportedly taken some strong steps. Assistant coach Abhishek Nayar has been removed just eight months into his role. Along with him, fielding coach T. Dilip and strength and conditioning coach Soham Desai have also been let go from their positions.
According to Dainik Jagran, along with assistant coach Abhishek Nayar, Team India’s fielding coach T. Dilip and trainer Soham Desai have also been sacked. Assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate will take over fielding duties for now, as no replacements have been named yet for Nayar or Dilip. Meanwhile, South African fitness expert Adrian Le Roux, currently with Punjab Kings in IPL 2025, will replace Soham Desai as the new strength and conditioning coach.
The new support staff is likely to join Team India before the five-match Test series against England, which starts on June 20 in England.
Rohit Sharma's India suffered a disappointing loss in the five-Test series against Australia, losing 3-1. The loss earned Australia a spot in the World Test Championship Final. Rohit, who had missed the Test for personal reasons was heavily criticized for his performance and even dropped himself from the fifth Test. In a shocking development, veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin also announced his retirement after the third Test.
After the disappointment in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, India made an incredible comeback going on to win the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 without losing a single match in the tournament.
